A Piece of Paradise

Peace and Tranquility at The Sarojin

Serene white beaches, pools that blend into the tropical gardens, daybeds draped in flowing white fabric are just a few of the things that make The Sarojin in Khao Lak, Thailand one of the most idyllic places we have visited.

Nestled within 10 acres of tropical gardens leading directly onto the beach The Sarojin is so blissful you won’t want to leave.

Arriving at The Sarojin, we are greeted with friendly faces, cold towels and fresh juice and made to feel at home straight away. Taking a seat in the impressive entrance pavilion, we admire the landscape of palm trees and lush greenery that surround the serene looking lotus pond and can’t wait to explore the rest of this impressive looking retreat.

Our room, a garden residence was nestled amongst Ficus, Palm and Frangipani trees, and reached via a hidden pathway. Crisp white sheets, rose petals sprinkled in the oval stone couples bathtub, an outside terrace complete with our own Thai Sala (day bed) this truly was a place of peace and tranquility.

1pm and time for breakfast, yes here at The Sarojin even breakfast is unique – served in The Ficus restaurant, a refined relaxed space where you can sit inside or out overlooking the magnificent lotus pond. Breakfast is a la carte and served all day until 6pm with an extensive choice of cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, traditional Thai dishes, eggs and so much more. Beverages include fresh fruit juices, an assortment of teas and coffees and even sparkling wine – all served by the most amazing staff, who are attentive, warm and welcoming. There is no rush here you can choose to linger as long as you like.

After our lunchtime breakfast it was time to head to the pool, for some serious lazing around. The individual pavilions that surround the stunning deep blue infinity pool prove the perfect place for this. The pool itself is divine, whether you choose to just dip your toes in or swim a few laps the tranquility and beauty of the water will have you mesmerized.

All this relaxing was becoming addictive so a little trip to the Pathway’s Spa was required. An intimate haven that merges into its surroundings beautifully. Walking into the spa brings a sense of calm even before you’ve removed your flip-flops!

Pathway’s blends together the ancient physical and spiritual healing of spa, creating an almost sacred harmony for physical and spiritual nourishment.

Pre treatment, hubbie and I luxuriated in the open air relaxation area listening to the wildlife around us, drinking the most delicious herbal tea and choosing which essential oil smell we were most drawn to (this would be the oil that was then used for our massage)– I chose Jai Yen (Calm Heart) a blend of mint and eucalyptus and Hubble chose Jai Dee (Kindness) a blend of lemongrass, lavender and sandalwood. The full body massage that followed saw any remaining stress leave my body. The slight breeze through the trees heightened the ambience of the whole experience and the birds softly singing in the distance, a treatment here really is an indulgence like no other.

If lounging around doing nothing all day is too much for you, the Sarojin’s ‘imagineer’ will arrange experiences for you to try. Whether it’s diving or fishing from the resorts very own boat the Lady Sarojin, walks through national parks, elephant trekking, mountain biking, golfing, or waterfall dining to name but a few. Like everything at The Sarojin nothing is too much trouble if you want it they will do their upmost to accommodate. We decided to do a little exploring ourselves and traveled down the Takuapa River known as The Little Amazon where we discovered the surrounding rainforests on a pleat boat (Thailand’s traditional version of a speed boat) an adventure that had us encounter snakes, birds, monkeys, lizards and other wildlife in their natural habitat, followed by a traditional Thai lunch and a guided tour of the local food market.

Back at The Sarojin we had been moved to one of their Spa Suites, privately tucked away on the upper floor, with its own outdoor couples circular relaxation pool and sun terrace with magnificent views overlooking the lush tropical gardens. Inside was a truly luxurious space offering an ensuite couples bathroom with rain shower and stone bathtub, along with a separate bedroom and lounge area.

Dining that evening was in The Ficus restaurant for their Mediterranean to Michelin evening. The food served was impeccable. Careful attention to detail is used to bring to life fresh ingredients and dishes that you can tell are made with passion. A fresh selection of seafood including oysters and scallops were just a couple of the foods on offer, others included foie gras, beef tenderloin, black cod along with a selection of the most delicious desserts, the whole dining experience was a culinary delight – I don’t think it will be long before that Michelin star is awarded!

Just when you think it can’t get any better, head down to the beach and be prepared to be wowed!!! The hotel has their own private section of beach with sun loungers, umbrellas and beach towels, iced water is on tap and the Edge bar/restaurant is on hand for fresh fruit smoothies, snacks, beers and lunch. Come the evening The Edge becomes another dining option, right on the beach you can enjoy the most romantic meal ejildt listening to the waves splashing against the rocks, looking out into the vast blackness and imagine what lies beyond, dining here is a magical experience, and it still doesn’t stop –

Whether it’s a romantic candlelit dinner next to a jungle waterfall or on a private sand isle, a gourmet picnic breakfast on a secluded white sand beach, or a private dinner in a pool island pavilion or in your own sala, Outside or inside, on the beach, in the jungle, in the gardens – The Sarojin will create a private dining option just for you.

Attention to detail at The Sarojin is faultless from your own beach bag and hand bag size mosquito spray, to the poolside service of cool water and fresh fruit, it really is your own piece of paradise, a place where dreams do come true and somewhere that will be etched in your memory forever.
